After eye creams and serums, what else can it be? For some, eye treatments can be seen as a marketing gimmick for people to spend more. True, some products can be a hit and miss. Or maybe they just didn’t do anything on me.
But then again, I don’t set my expectations that high, unlike some people. There are variables that can’t be changed drastically. For the ones that made a difference though, will make me keep going using them.
This particular product has been in my routine for the past year. It has become a secret weapon for tired eyes. And it has a really long name, Lancôme Advanced Génifique Light Pearl Eye Mask*.
WHAT IS IT? In short, an eye mask. It comes in a box of 6 sachets, each bearing 2 pads (1 pair). Initially, I wasn’t sure how or when to apply the eye mask. I just decided to be spontaneous and use them in between my skincare routine, after hydrating toner and before a serum.
The material that Lancôme uses in this Light Pearl Eye Mask is rather unique. I’d thought it would be like a regular sheet mask. It uses an exclusive bio-cellulose material that can retain more moisture and doesn’t dry out so quickly. Upon touching, it feels almost like a thin but firm jelly-esque and slippery due to the serum that coats the eye pads. The pads adhere beautifully, sort of melt into the skin and they don’t slide around. They are also naturally cooling so there’s an instant soothing and relaxing sensation.
By the way, each pad is covered in the serum generously. If I’m not mistaken, the serum shares a similar formula to the Advanced Génifique Light Pearl Eye Serum. It was a little bit awkward at first because there was so much of the serum and then it hit me: I can save the serum and use it the next day. So, I tried to put back the excess liquid back into the package, sparing just enough to cover the under eye area, apply the eye pads, leave it on for 10 minutes. Take them off, put them back into the package. And keep them in the fridge.
On average, I can reuse a pair of Lancôme Light Pearl Eye Mask for up to 3-4 days. 5 days are stretching it too far. The bio-cellulose pads will get drier and the serum will slightly evaporate as well, which is normal and expected. So the best way around this is to apply the serum first, then place the eye pad over. If you know me, I don’t keep any skincare product in the fridge but because I’m going to reuse it again, I find it’s a logical decision to preserve the product for a little bit longer. And yes, it does feel great having the cold pads on the under eye area 😀
Once I take off the pads, I make sure that I pat in the liquid with a gentle massaging motion. I can either use my ring fingers, Guerlain Abeille Royale Eye Serum applicator or The Body Shop Precision Eye Massager (seriously though, this tool is handy). The massage will improve the blood circulation underneath the skin, stimulating, and encouraging lymphatic drainage to reduce puffiness and lessen dullness.
I didn’t have any expectations on this Lancôme Light Pearl Eye Mask whatsoever. Little did I expect, I was actually BLOWN AWAY by the results! What the?! Right after I take them off, I can see the instant gratifying result! The under eye areas definitely look instantly rested, more hydrated and moisturized. And because the pads stick so well to the skin, with a strategic placement, I could see there’s a slight lifting effect too. It’s safe to say that I was rather impressed from the very first try.
The instruction suggests using twice a week or whenever we need a boost. Well… This isn’t exactly cheap, so twice a week is definitely too much LOL! I found the perfect time to use it, during that “time of the month“, if you know what I mean. Usually, I got tired easily and it showed in my eyes. Puffy and lackluster. Next thing I knew, I just grabbed this, put those patches on and no one would know the crappy week I had to go through 😀
Sure, once in a while I might cheat by using it twice a month. Why not. Because it really is quite that simple! Pop them on under the eyes and relax! It’s close to cheating a good 8-hour beauty sleep. Some days I just can’t help it and products like these are a savior. That being said, I don’t cheat my way out too much 😜 I know I need a quality sleep and balanced lifestyle, skincare can only do so much.
I can use the Lancôme Light Pearl Eye Mask on its own or apply another eye treatment on top. On its own, I’ll say it does feel a little bit thin, hence the urge of sealing all the goodness in. If I do, I make sure that I choose a lightweight texture to prevent unwanted milia. Some products I love to use are Odacite Ba + S, PATYKA Radiant Eye Contour, and Country & Stream Honey Eye Roll-on.
Alright. Let’s talk about the cost. The price is on a high side. One box of the Lancôme Light Pearl Eye Mask is IDR 1.050.000 for 6 pairs, which comes down to IDR 175.000 per pair. It’s definitely a splurge, not going to lie. However, considering I only use it once a month (most of the time anyway), and the fact that I can reuse it for up to 3-4 times, it turns out to be quite reasonable 😀
I’m aware there are more affordable options out there (which I haven’t tried). But, if you have the budget and don’t mind spending what others might say a waste, do give this Lancôme Light Pearl Eye Mask a try. And let me know how it goes! It’ll be interesting to see what others think about this product. I’m genuinely curious.
Disclosure: I originally received this product as a PR sample. But I ended up repurchase it myself. I personally thanked Lancôme for letting me try it, otherwise, I wouldn’t have known such an amazing product. That’s how much I love it.
