The Good and The Forbidden

Time Flies and I’m A Basket Case

December 31, 2022

This was supposed to be published in 2021.

I haven’t written anything on this blog for a couple of years. Do I feel guilty? Yes.

Have to say, sharing on Instagram took over. Albeit, it has its own challenges. With the limited characters in the caption and how I try to keep my information concise (because I personally don’t have the time to simply scroll that many stories in one go). I get used to it, but then it became convenient and I got somewhat complacent.

And then we hit 2020 and it was a blur – that’s not an understatement.

I experimented and cooked a lot with the air fryer. It was the thing.

A day at Korakuen Garden – Okayama

January 4, 2019

Okayama was the city we chose for the next destination. For a few reasons. The first one is as a place to stay while we go to Naoshima for a day trip. The second one is to visit Korakuen Garden, one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan.

The last reason was simply that we never set our feet on this city before and thought why not? We love exploring the different cities in Japan and this will be another new adventure for us.

Kyoto – For The Love of Scenery

August 7, 2018

Let me just say I suck at writing travel posts. Part of it is because I didn’t take a lot of photos so I don’t have much to show you. But I suppose, it challenges me to write and let the words become the visual aid here, hopefully.

So, one of our favorite cities, Kyoto, was the next destination after Sapporo. We took a domestic flight early in the morning from New Chitose Airport to Haneda (Tokyo). From there, we took a train to Shinagawa Station then boarded a Shinkansen (using JR pass) for about 150-160 minutes to Kyoto.

We spent 3 days and 2 nights in this beautiful city.

The Wedding Nails 2.0

July 26, 2018

Well, whaddya know, another wedding-related post. I was going to post this sooner but the old tale was I got caught by so many different excuses :p

Anyway, we were very lucky that we get to hold another wedding reception which was 3 weeks after the D-Day. This time, the guests are our friends! I suppose, call me for being extra. But I did want my nails to look different. Plus, the previous nails were getting long and I wasn’t comfortable with the length.

This was what I decided on.

My Wedding Shoes – Something Blue

June 7, 2018

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho

It is truly one of the truest quotes I live by. I believe we attract what our minds aspire to. As simple as, when we’re happy, good things come by. When we’re being negative, then bad things are everything that we see. It’s about seeing things in a different perspective, with a brighter note.

I wanted to try this post as a reminder for myself to never underestimate the power of positive thinking.

Yes, this post is also about my wedding shoes. And how I came to acquire them.

Sapporo – Where Everything is Covered in Snow

April 9, 2018

Ever since we traveled to Japan for the first time in 2016, we’ve always wanted to go back. There was no doubt in our minds that when we get married, we will have our honeymoon there. In all honesty, we were very laid back on this trip. We’ve actually just booked the hotels and finish other arrangements (pocket wifi, JR pass, etc) a week before our departure, though we have set an itinerary, sort of.

The first city that we chose is Sapporo!

We departed from Jakarta to Tokyo (Haneda), before continuing our flight to Sapporo. The trick here was we had to change from international to domestic terminal. We picked up our baggage, boarded the airport bus then dropped them off at the transit counter and were set to go.

Except, there was a delay with the flight. A two hour one. We grabbed something to eat at the airport because it was getting late, we were hungry and tired. The flight took about 1 1/2 hour and we’re glad we did eat because as it turned out, there were no meals provided; just water and a packet of snack. The flight had a little bit of turbulence too. Whew, what a start!

Wedding Souvenir – Handmade Soap Bars

January 11, 2018

Ever since from the beginning, I’ve wanted to make the wedding souvenirs on our own. With a fairly small the number of guests, I thought it’s still manageable. I wanted something that is personalized and ultimately, usable and functional. Of course, it needed to be able to be DIY-ed.

There were quite a few options. I thought about making scented candles with dried flowers. Or having a small cactus plant for each of the guests. But it ended up being a no-go because some of our guests will be flying from out of town. We didn’t want the souvenir to be a hassle for them to carry around, with the risk of breaking and all that.

So, something that is not fragile, durable enough, and doesn’t take up space. Handmade soap bars.

Sunscreen at daytime, always.
Double Cleanse at night, a must!

Exfoliate regularly, as necessary, and don’t overdo it.
Don’t forget to use a Hydrating Toner after Exfoliating Acid Toner to prevent dryness and irritation.

Opt for calming and soothing products more than anything else. Pick gentle cleansers. Aim for hydration and moisture. Maintain the skin barrier.

STAY UPDATED!

@kaepratiwi

This could be the year for @lancomeofficial as the This could be the year for @lancomeofficial as the brand has been releasing great products with stellar formulations lately! After the Rénergie Triple Serum success on me, the Rénergie HPN Cream really becomes the cherry on top 🍒

I’ve been using it for the past couple of months, day and night. It doesn’t take long for me to fall in love with it. The first thing that I noticed is the increase plumpness and firmness on the cheeks down - which is always a good sign in my book. As I go into my 30s, I do notice a decrease in hydration and slight loss of volume. So a product like this will always be appreciated. When I combine the Rénergie Triple Serum and HPN Cream together, I really get a dynamic duo. The brightening, even skin tone is more highlighted.

The texture may look quite thick from the outside, but after blending it into the skin, it has a nice balance of hydration and moisture while still manages to be quite lightweight. I apply a bit more during nighttime or finish off with a sleeping mask for enhanced moisture.

I also think it goes well with other products too, don’t really have to think about ingredients clashing, because it’s a friendly 👌🏼 If you’re like me nowadays and prefer for a quick routine yet still deliver experience and results, put this cream on your wishlist! Stat!

663/1000 - what a humbling honor to be a part of t 663/1000 - what a humbling honor to be a part of the grand launch of The Ultimate S Cream with the special display box.

I am obsessed with the design details. An homage to the historical Korean moon jar, representing the richness and wholesomeness of the moon itself. Clean cuts. Soft, smooth matte to the touch.

Sulwhasoo’s recent rebranding possesses a look that marriage heritage and modernity. Cleaner facade yet still with shapes & lines of the bottles and jars that remind you of the old times. A representation of the brand’s philosophy in combining heritage, art and innovation.

I don’t like to play favorites, because I think I don’t like to play favorites, because I think every product that I like has its own merits and place in my routine. But, there are certain brands and products that I just keep getting back to.

@sulwhasoo.indonesia is one of the few. The First Care Activating Serum is indeed the first product that I tell everyone to try if you want to dive into this brand. The 6th Gen indeed boasts newer technology, Sulwhasoo Master Complex™️. And for the first time, there’s Ginseng active in it! It cares for the skin’s inherent ability to renew and take care of itself. It really is a great booster serum!

Gentle Cleansing Foam - if you haven’t tried this, you should. I only need very little for each use, it lasts quite a really long time. If you need a first cleanser, pair it with Gentle Cleansing Oil too. Just like the name, they’re gentle and don’t strip my skin afterwards. The scent? Heavenly.

White Ginseng Radiance Mask - can be used as a facial scrub and mask at one go. The combination of herbals and soft particles soften the skin surface. It’s a type of mask that I will use while I’m showering, so I can wash it off altogether.

If you’re like me and you just want to swim yourself in a luxurious cream, Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream should be on the wishlist. I do think this help with “filling” the pockets of my skin, making it denser and firmer. Just apply and enjoy the experience, really! ☺️
