The Good and The Forbidden

The Rise of Indonesian Beauty Brands during the Pandemic

January 3, 2024

You read that right.

If you follow the beauty scene, you will realize that we have so, so many beauty brands now. It’s impossible to keep track because new brands and new launches are just around the corner every week, every month, and so forth.

The Pandemic sure doesn’t stop people from hatching new businesses. The beauty industry is thriving and growing at such a high rate.

The Pandemic vs. Skin, who wins? – #1

January 3, 2023

It’s no surprise that I would write about this. HA!

Not because I love skincare, which I do, but more because I didn’t expect that the pandemic would have a huge impact on my skin and its routine. It is a struggle and I don’t mean it lightly.

And it still continues to this day.

We all have to wear face masks.

How I Maintain A (Relatively) Acne-free Skin

September 18, 2018

Acne is such an intrusive, problematic issue for most people. I mean, who wants to have acne? No one, I’m quite sure!

I battled quite a horrific hormonal cystic acne when I hit 25, 6 years ago. I was really stressed out because they kept coming by the day. Painful? It sure was. It was an eye-opening moment for me that I needed to take better care of my skin. Not just simply washing my face every day and slap on a moisturizer, for the sake of it.

Fast forward today, I’ve learned a lot of things during my skincare journey. And it doesn’t stop there, because I keep coming across new knowledge every day, experiencing different things and in general, a better understanding of my skin and health. That’s why, the sharing will never end for me, hopefully.

In all honesty, writing this post kind of terrifies me a little. Part of me wants to share it, the other is scared of jinx-ing what I’ve been doing to get into this point where I can say that my skin is at its best shape at the moment. But, I can’t be selfish because I hope that whoever reads this can find an enlightenment, or two 🙂

Beauty Assistant & Customer Relations – Attitude & Knowledge Matter

May 3, 2018

Not too long ago, I had this chat with a friend who used to work in a well-known beauty brand. Then I remembered about all the other conversations I had with different people talking about this particular topic. It’s not necessarily a subject that we often discuss publicly but I am sure many people have their own opinions about this.

BeautyAssistant, or we know them with other titles such as Beauty Advisor, Sales Assistant/Advisor/Consultant, or abbreviated as BA or SA. Yep, you’d probably have an idea where I’m going with this.

So, shall we?

#TFCBeautyTalk: Things To Acknowledge When Starting A Skincare Journey (part 2)

February 18, 2018

Alright, this is a continuation from Part 1, where I try to compile a list of things I’ve personally learned during my skincare journey and how it might benefit for people who want to take better care at their skin. There’s so much more to it than just a set of products, believe me.

At this stage, I think this could be a series within a series. Honestly, there are so many bottled-up things I want to write. Information that get shared often repeatedly via DMs/messages. I will keep adding more as I see fit. I hope we can all learn a thing or two.

Enjoy!

#TFCBeautyTalk: Things To Acknowledge When Starting A Skincare Journey

January 30, 2018

Here we go, another session at #TFCBeautyTalk.

In the midst of people sharing their skincare routines *yes, I am one of those people* all over social media, I completely understand how overwhelming it can be. There are so many out there. Endless products with endless combinations. Never-ending new launches and releases. It can get intimidating, to say the least. Especially for curious onlookers who are just starting to gain an interest. Beginners. Newbies. Whatever you call it.

It makes it harder too because there are gazillions of information out there nowadays compared to say, 5 years ago and one’s ability to process them all is limited. Plus, the power of social media and influencers can make us FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Then before you know it, you fall into the black hole. Clueless and in limbo.

Enter this post. Compiling the essential things to acknowledge and remember as you’re on this journey. Let’s just say this is more of a guideline and a point of view from my glasses – based on my experience. Not dictating anyone because ultimately, the decision is yours to make and the risk is yours to bear.

Worth to read before we start. They’re all related.

#TFCBeautyTalk: I Don’t Strive for Perfection

January 12, 2017

As we all know, the beauty industry has a high standard in defining “beautiful” that is impossible for us to reach. I’m saying impossible because there’s always going to be something new, even harder to get and it’s limitless. We can’t follow it all the time. It’s an endless battle and it’s exhausting.

The industry sets what pretty faces look like and what doesn’t. Even if there are some changes today, with people saying that “beauty comes in all shapes and sizes”, sadly, those images and standards are already instilled in us. We are vanity beings and it’s hard to ignore that. There’s always going to be that self-consciousness in all of us in any aspect of our lives. And that’s normal. But what makes a difference is how we handle these insecurities so we don’t succumb to it.

Cleanse – Hydrate – Moisturize – Protect (SPF)

Sunscreen at daytime, always.
Double Cleanse at night, a must!

Exfoliate regularly, as necessary, and don’t overdo it.
Don’t forget to use a Hydrating Toner after Exfoliating Acid Toner to prevent dryness and irritation.

Opt for calming and soothing products more than anything else. Pick gentle cleansers. Aim for hydration and moisture. Maintain the skin barrier.

Proper hydration and balanced moisturization are key to achieving a healthy skin, even if your skin is oily.

Thankfully, I do find it quite easy to follow journey and explore the fragrances. Many of the scents are easily loved, yet they don’t feel that mass either. Some of them are light enough to be combined with each other.

It’s also convenient that each scent is available in 3 sizes: 2.5 ml, 30 ml and 100 ml.
