Now, let this be an advance notice that I am a beginner in the whole face oil territory. I’ve only started using face oil dutifully sometime earlier this year. I began interested in face oil after reading DesZell’s article about the Trilogy Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+. Believe me, I still had that why-the-hell-do-I-want-to-put-oil-on-my-face look. But then, lucky strike came along and I got this at an auction for an extremely good price, or shall I say, cheap! I thought, hey, why not give this a chance.
I tried this a couple of times, three, max, and decided I didn’t like it. Or, more like I was confused about it. I feel it didn’t quite fit right into my still-raw skincare regime. And so, I left it on my vanity table for the longest time. That was in 2013. Not until I read the article again and by then my skincare regime had fully grown, I felt the need to give this another try.
Based on Trilogy’s website, Rosehip Antioxidant+ will help to improve the skin tone, add brightness and elasticity as well as firmness to the skin. That’s some big claim right there. And I’m here to prove it, so keep reading.
Alright, for this second try, I mixed the oil with Avène Thermal Spring Water. Just one spritz on my palm, add 4-5 drops of oil, rub them together between my hands and cup my hands on my face. Giving it good massage, making sure the oil is spread and absorbed evenly across my face then bringing it down to the neck and decolletage as well. Add another spritz on my palm, rub the hands together again and repeat. Last bit, another spritz, rub, and apply whatever is left to my hands and lower arms.
I’m aware that the instructions says 2-3 drops, but I didn’t feel it’s enough for my needs.
I use this at night time only, after my serum and as a moisturizer replacement. I did this straight for about two weeks and realizing that I don’t want to go back using my night cream anymore (but I had to because I have to finish it). It gives my skin enough hydration to last through the night while remains lightweight. I think adding Avène Thermal Spring Water to the oil and not to mention using a hydrating toner/lotion beforehand (I use SK-II Cellumination Mask-in Lotion) definitely contribute to boost the moisture level as well.
Why do I add water? My logic is this: oil floats on water. Water is water, the skin will eat it anyway. When I mix the oil and water together, the oil will seep easier into the skin and whatever is left will help to seal the moisture inside. Pretty simple, eh?
Now, I will say that the biggest change a product has made to my skin is none other than Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment. And I’ve only started to use this oil again in early 2014, and yes, on top of Good Genes too. On the days I don’t use Good Genes, I still use this oil on top of my other serums. And I will say Trilogy’s claims on making the skin tone more even, brightened, supple and firm is spot on.
I think the result is very gradual and before I know it, my skin has improved even better. I noticed this when I apply my makeup on. It refines the texture of my skin, making it softer and smoother. Fine lines are fading, oh yeah. This, to me, is a great all-rounder face oil. I can just use this in any skin condition, including during PMS or general stress from work. Actually, this helps calms my skin down. I don’t even have to think about it. Just slap it on and I know my skin will be thankful for it. Needless to say, I love it!
Now if only this is easier to get…
P.S. I didn’t know this oil is one of Miranda Kerr’s beauty secrets!
