THE FRUIT COMPOTE

The Good and The Forbidden

Tailor The Skin with Bravura Acid Peels

May 17, 2016

I adore chemical exfoliation. My first encounter with acid was First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads, leading to my holy grail Sunday Riley Good Genes, have changed my life and the way I do my skincare routine. I don’t think I could ever live without it now.

Dabbling in acids hasn’t always been the easiest affair. It can get confusing at times. My personal rule has always been and will always be “do not over exfoliate”. With that in mind, I know that it’s best to keep it simple and tactical.

Speaking of simplicity, the products I’m about to review are the ones that give me exactly that. Straightforward and on pointe.

May Lindstrom The Problem Solver – BANG for The Buck!

March 31, 2016

So what happens when one (read: I) wanted to try this mask yet found the price slays the wallet? Well, for the sake of good skin and satiate the curiosity, I’m willing to be the test bunny and took the plunge. Besides, I’ve never tried anything like this before.

I definitely get more than I bargained for.

Temper The Skin with TATCHA Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream

February 22, 2016

My heart sang when TATCHA came out with a moisturizer as a part of their Indigo line. I love the Hand Cream and Body Butter. They’re a savior for dry and parched limbs. My sister had used them when she suffered a sunburn a few times and to treat her irritated cracked hands. They healed these conditions quickly.

By then, I thought it’d be brilliant if the brand could make a version that’s suitable for the face, because I know I could benefit from it greatly. They answered my prayers!

Trick or Treat: GRESSA Pumpkin Peel Clarifying Mask

January 18, 2016

Let me state first that this product is sadly a limited edition and probably will only be available again sometime in this year’s fall season (got mine in October 2015).

I didn’t expect to receive this as a complementary gift at all when I made an order at Gressa‘s website. Once I found out, I was more than ecstatic because apparently there were many good feedback from customers who have tried them in the previous year.

It may be pointless to make a review but I’m hoping it’ll make a comeback.

Sunday Riley Luna: The Magic That Didn’t Happen Overnight

September 17, 2015

Sunday Riley Luna Oil*, the blue concoction that makes skincare devotees going ga-ga, especially after several famous bloggers stating the wonders that it does after one night of usage.

Well, yeah, it didn’t happen to me. Not in one night, sorry.

I’m not worried though, because every skincare product reacts and affects differently on people, whether it’s the results or the time that it takes. I won’t sweat it.

Before I start, I’d like to state this first. I was very lucky that I won Luna in a Sunday Riley‘s giveaway. I honestly didn’t expect it at all. From the list of prizes, which didn’t have this product in it, I would’ve been very happy if I received anything from the line. So when they contacted me and said that the prize is Luna, I was absolutely over the moon. I believe the product had just been launched by then, so it literally felt like I won a lottery. It still does.

Although I planned on getting Luna eventually, I definitely wasn’t prepared on receiving one so soon. I never used any retinol-based product previously and I had not read anything much about this ingredient. That being said, I somewhat refrained myself from reading reviews on Luna. Just because I want to make sure that I stay neutral in my opinion. And really, to feel the full experience on Luna.

Let’s get to it.

The Unexpected REN Resurfacing AHA Concentrate

August 24, 2015

I’ve been always intrigued by REN. The brand offers quite an elaborated skincare line with different ranges for different skin types and concerns. There were a few on my wishlist, though I never really came to prioritize which one I should get first.

Then came a chance of this product, at a good discounted price. With no second thought, I snapped it.

PIXI Glow Tonic – Yes with Caution

July 28, 2015

It seems, “Double Toning” is all the raaaage lately. It just means using two toners, an exfoliating toner and a hydrating one. I’ve been doing this for more than a couple of years now, not knowing of this term until a while ago. Or maybe it has been there for a long time, I’m just the one who doesn’t read enough :p
So when famous names in the beauty world started to rave about this particular step, I was like patting myself on the back. I’m on the right track here.

It just sort of comes natural to me, to put a hydrating toner on top of exfoliating toner, which is usually more acidic and tends to be drier on the skin. Just to keep things balanced. It’s logical.

My first (accidental) encounter with exfoliating toner is none other than First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads and I still use it to this date. Second one, which apparently is also an exfoliating toner, is the Blemish Patrol Pads from the same brand. I can’t say enough about these two workhorse wonders. There are also a few others that I’ve tried.

Set that aside, I’m adding the cult-favorite PIXI Glow Tonic to join my arsenal.

BASIC SKINCARE ROUTINE

Cleanse – Hydrate – Moisturize – Protect (SPF)

Sunscreen at daytime, always.
Double Cleanse at night, a must!

Exfoliate regularly, as necessary, and don’t overdo it.
Don’t forget to use a Hydrating Toner after Exfoliating Acid Toner to prevent dryness and irritation.

Opt for calming and soothing products more than anything else. Pick gentle cleansers. Aim for hydration and moisture. Maintain the skin barrier.

Proper hydration and balanced moisturization are key to achieving a healthy skin, even if your skin is oily.

Always be gentle on your skin.

Thankfully, I do find it quite easy to follow journey and explore the fragrances. Many of the scents are easily loved, yet they don’t feel that mass either. Some of them are light enough to be combined with each other.

It’s also convenient that each scent is available in 3 sizes: 2.5 ml, 30 ml and 100 ml.
