The Good and The Forbidden

More Lip Balm Loves

October 20, 2016 Leave a Comment

You know, lip balms are those easy things to buy (and try) and yet, they can be trivial. Their purpose is to moisturize the lips and sometimes, more often than not, they do the opposite. I can see why this can be frustrating. When I found the one that I really love (NUXE Rêve de Miel Lip Balm), there’s no doubt I would use it until the last dip. However, it took a really long time and I started to get the itch to try new ones.

This is a problem for beauty junkies. But if we don’t try new products every now and then, we’ll never know where they could take us. We’ll wonder and I can’t handle it.

In this post, I’m going to share some of the lip balms in my repertoire that I’ve been enjoying in the past few months.

Kahina Eye Serum – Done Deal

May 11, 2016 Comments : 3

After a face serum, another form of serums started to come along. It’s natural, I guess. Years ago, I was one of those skeptics doubting the efficacy of serums. I thought it’s one of those marketing gimmicks, trying to make us spend more. You do realize serums are usually on the expensive side, right?

Enter an eye serum. I wasn’t intrigued until I came across this product. It sounds.. believable. I know it promises the many things any other eye treatment products do. I kept thinking to myself, “Do I need this? What are the different ways can I use it for?”. The curiosity just got to me. If I never try it, I’ll never know. The price point was still within my budget. At that time, I saw my friend Nic used this too and she likes it a lot (read her review here). So into the cart it went.

My Japan Holiday Trip – Skincare Routine

March 10, 2016 Leave a Comment

I thought I should share what skincare products I brought and used during my recent Japan trip. This particular one is special because I’ve yet traveled in any winter weather since I started my skincare journey few years ago. So let’s just say this is sort of an educated experiment that turned successful.

Obviously, I researched and visualized the weather conditions and temperature. It was the end of winter, coming into spring. With that in mind, I had a general idea of a set of products that I want to bring with me. Of course, they have to fit into my skincare bag. I had to negotiate here and there to make sure the bag isn’t too heavy. The total weight overall came to around 1 – 1.5 kg, I think. Or probably more *HA*. The bag did feel heavy.

Another info you need to know is I got sick a couple days before my departure. Sore throat, fatigue, headache. All escalated into one nasty cold, congestion with frequent coughing within the first few days of my trip. Thank goodness, I was prepared.

Without further adieu, let’s get to it!

Clarins Lip Comfort Oil – WHY?!

July 21, 2015 Leave a Comment

OK, before I start, let me tell you that the product I’m about to make a review on is limited edition and it’s probably going to be tricky to acquire by now.

Wonk wonk wonk..

I contemplated on whether I should write about it or not, back and forth. It’s rather fruitless but I feel that this product worth a spot in TheFruitCompote.com.

So here it is, Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil 01 Honey.

The Colorful Evete Naturals Lip Balms

March 20, 2015 Comments : 2

Lately, I’ve been seeing many local Indonesians come up with handmade beauty brands. To be honest, I never touch local brands anymore because I’ve tried a few in the past and they just didn’t work for me. Too many pet peeves, the biggest one being the pungent artificial scent. And the too-affordable price tags alarm me too. Call me skeptical, sure, because I am.

With this new breed of handmade cosmetics, only a handful that piqued my interest. One of them is Evete Naturals, a Yogyakarta-based small brand. It pronounces as “i-vet” which means feminine in Italian. The people behind the brand are three best friends with chemical engineering background who have a love for beauty products and a passion for a healthier lifestyle. The brand prides itself in using quality natural ingredients with no mineral oil, no parabens and no artificial colorant.

Currently, the brand offers two products, lip balms and body butters. Today, I’ll be reviewing the lip balms first.

Lip Care Routine – Night & Day

January 9, 2015 Comments : 18

As much as I love wearing lipsticks, taking care of the vessel, a.k.a. the lips comes first. Because honey, no matter how phenomenal a lipstick is, there is no way I’m going to wear it with dry and chapped lips. OK, maybe I could, but it sure does feel more comfortable when I prep them well.

My lips are naturally dry. It’s even drier when I don’t have enough sleep, don’t drink enough water and the whole shebang. So I do need a good regime to keep them in tip-top condition. Not just because it’ll help with the lipstick application and increase the wear time, but first and foremost, who likes the feel of dry lips and the look of chapped lips? Ew. The thought of it cringes me.

Heads up, this is a long one.

PATYKA Intensive Moisturizing Mask, it has this Pa PATYKA Intensive Moisturizing Mask, it has this Parisian je-ne-sais-quoi quality that is just effortless. This product reminds me of something that I’d love to carry during long-haul flights. After cleansing the skin, just apply the product and either watch a movie or go to sleep to avoid the jet lag. And reapply when needed.

Into the description, it’s formulated to give a hydrolipidic film to the skin, or rather, to protect the skin barrier and strengthens it when needed. It contains an ample amount of emollients and Hexapeptide-11; a chain of peptide with 6 amino acids that are used to increase collagen production, boost elasticity and firmness in the skin. The mask also acts as an SOS product.

The slightly pale bluish-cream gives out a heavier moisture that it looks actually. I thought it was just going to be on the lightweight side, but turned out, I do not need it as much. It can be applied thicker, leave on for a 15-20 minutes, massage it in and take the excess off if needed. It’s great but, no, I do not want to waste this whatsoever 😂 So I always use it as sleeping mask after a serum or a face oil (PATYKA Repair Night Serum is a great complement to this btw!). It’s beautiful that way and quick too.

It softens my skin, making it filled with nourishing moisture to last through the night while snuggling in my blanket. And perhaps, during my travels, in my dreams 😴😴

The unique floral powdery scent is quite an echo to the other PATYKA’s products. This is another interesting find from the brand. Available at @cnfstoreofficial.
