Complexion Routine: The Extra Mile

May 20, 2015

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a photo on my Instagram showing my makeup that I did to attend one of my high school friends’ wedding. I took this occasion as a challenge because I had PMS and my skin was breaking out pretty bad. Not just that, my skin was really dehydrated and there were quite a few of dry patches because I still had a flu back then. Bottom line, my skin wasn’t its usual self.

That day, I needed to look presentable (more than usual), polished without looking like I piled on a lot on my face; I never liked that look and I’m not about to start now. In this post, I will cover a lot of things, not just list of products, but also details on why I like them and how I use them. This way, I hope that I also can share my complexion makeup routine.

That being said, this is going to be a LONG post. Brace yourself. Grab a popcorn.

Without further adieu, here’s what I did and use on my complexion:

Never Forget – Inner Corner Highlight!

May 8, 2015

One of the most-asked questions I got from people on my Instagram, emails and in real life is what I use on my inner corners in my eye makeup. Well, before I sound like a broken record, I think it’s wise to just make a post about it!

Inner corner highlight is an integral part of my eye makeup. It’s highly crucial that I never missed this step. The one time that I did forget, I felt something big was missing. My makeup didn’t feel complete without it.

See, the thing is, highlighting the inner corners does so many good things to my eyes and overall makeup look. It gives more definition to my eyes and creates an illusion of a bigger, wider set of eyes. I also think it makes the sides of my nose appear slimmer when paired with a nose contour.

And of course, it makes me look AWAKE.

#TFCBeautyTalk: Contact Lenses

May 4, 2015

Hello!

I am introducing a new series on my blog called The Fruit Compote’s Beauty Talk (#TFCBeautyTalk) where I’ll choose a topic and tell you what I think about it. It’s going to be more of a story-telling, chit-chatty, an opinion type of post. So yes, expect something long and be ready to spend the extra minutes.

I haven’t figured out where this is going yet, but I think it’d be nice to share some of my thoughts about certain things 🙂

The first topic for this series is Contact Lenses, the colored one specifically.

LoTW: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet 09 Happy Nude Year

April 30, 2015

It’s nothing but a good sign when I get different shades from a lipstick line. With all the rage of liquid matte lipsticks storming into the beauty world, I’m still sticking to this one. After the success of all the other three shades, adding two new shades into the collection sounds like a well-reasoned idea.

In this post, I’ll be talking about one of them first, Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet 09 Happy Nude Year.

Shiseido ULTIMUNE, Quite The Booster

April 21, 2015

One of last year’s skincare product releases that I was very eager to try is the Shiseido ULTIMUNE Power Infusing Concentrate. There is just something about it that spoke to me when I first started seeing it surfacing across the net. It was everywhere…

Of course here in Indonesia, we get everything late. So I made a mental note to get this on my trip to Hong Kong in last November. To my surprise, I didn’t know that there are different sizes. I decided to get the 50 ml bottle. I got it at SASA, there was a promotion going on and I paid HKD 688 for this. It was the first thing that I bought when I stepped into one of the many shops and I couldn’t be more happier.

So happy that I used it at my first night staying in Hong Kong.

Innisfree Haul – Straight from Korea!

April 14, 2015

I had mentioned sometime ago that the only Korean brand that I’m interested in (as of now) is Innisfree. The brand is simple, low profile with its natural ingredients and green approach. It has a lot of charm but doesn’t have that fancy-schmancy, full of gimmick-thing going on.

When my cousin told me about her plans visiting Korea and her, being so kind had offered if I wanted something from there, naturally, I said “Innisfree!”

I set up a list and she managed to get them all 😀

Icing The Body with Evete Naturals Body Butters

April 13, 2015

I rarely use body lotion/butters/creams, or any body care products for that matter. I was simply being, negligent, or rather, I didn’t think I need it.

For real? NO, I’m just LAZY.

I’ve bought quite a few in the past, only to let them prettify the vanity desk. But, seeing my mom quite religiously put hers every night and her skin is always soft and moisturized (obviously), I thought that I should try to get myself on that bandwagon.

I was generously sent by Evete Naturals four out of the five variants in their Body Butter collection. To know about the brand more, you can read my review on the Lip Balms here.

BASIC SKINCARE ROUTINE

Cleanse – Hydrate – Moisturize – Protect (SPF)

Sunscreen at daytime, always.
Double Cleanse at night, a must!

Exfoliate regularly, as necessary, and don’t overdo it.
Don’t forget to use a Hydrating Toner after Exfoliating Acid Toner to prevent dryness and irritation.

Opt for calming and soothing products more than anything else. Pick gentle cleansers. Aim for hydration and moisture. Maintain the skin barrier.

Proper hydration and balanced moisturization are key to achieving a healthy skin, even if your skin is oily.

Always be gentle on your skin.

Thankfully, I do find it quite easy to follow journey and explore the fragrances. Many of the scents are easily loved, yet they don’t feel that mass either. Some of them are light enough to be combined with each other.

It’s also convenient that each scent is available in 3 sizes: 2.5 ml, 30 ml and 100 ml.

Do you have a favorite from this brand?
